PAINTING HOLIDAY IN GOZO
27 September - 4 October 2010
Gozo is an island (9 miles x 5 miles) about a half hour ferry journey from Malta. It is still an
unspoilt island with a very North African feel to its architecture and landscape. Getting there will require a flight to Malta and either a bus/taxi/hire car journey across Malta (approx one hour) to the ferry terminal.
Regular ferries run to Gozo and once in Gozo, it’s about 20 mins to the accommodation.
By late September the fierce heat has gone from the summer and, usually, it’s warm and bright with seas of a very encouraging temperature. Non painting partners are very
welcome and will find plenty to do. Apart from swimming (snorkelling is great) and visiting endless sights around Gozo, the walking is excellent with stunning and memorable views. A day out in Malta is planned as part of the week’s programme.
The accommodation (six self-cateering apartments) is contained within a walled complex and surrounds a swimming pool just outside the village of Gharb.
Mike, assisted by his wife Sue, is organising and tutoring this holiday but is not responsible for transport (flights, hire cars etc). Please speak to him and he will advise.
The price of the holiday includes six days tuition, all meals (prepared by Sue) less five evening meals to give an opportunity to dine out or to use the self-catering facilities in the apartments.
The costs are:
£725 (single occupancy) - £550 (sharing) - less £50 for non-painting partners
Images of Gozo opposite are paintings by Mike from previous visits.

The Programme
Where and what to paint. The Peels have:
- A fully equipped art studio facing onto the courtyard
- Local details in and around the farmhouse courtyard and gardens
- Beautiful hamlets and villages
- Local chateaux and grounds
- Rolling wooded hills and valleys
- Meandering streams and tranquil lakes
Each day they provide:
- Breakfast of freshly baked croissants/bread, home made jams, coffee and tea
- Lunch on the covered terrace, or a picnic on location in the countryside
- Tea and homemade cakes
- A three course home cooked meal. One evening we’ll go out to a local restaurant
For a change from painting you may wish to take a stroll, lounge by the pool or go for a cycle ride.
Additionally, there are many places to visit. To name only two: an unforgettable but moving visit can be arranged to the Martyrs Village of Oradour Sur Glane and Limoges is world famous for its porcelain.
For non painting partners they offer perfect countryside for rambling or cycling, two beautiful golf courses (Mike Peel would be delighted to join in), fishing by the lake or river, canoeing or even flying lessons !
Accommodation
They have six twin/double/single bedrooms, four bathrooms including two ensuite. Additional accommodation is provided in a nearby, very comfortable farmhouse chamber d’hote. There is a spacious and relaxing living room, separate dining area and studio with a north facing fully glazed wall looking onto the terraced courtyard. On the second floor is a small library and a well equipped gymnasium. Gardens and trees surround the house and you can relax in complete privacy by or in the pool.
Please note that the course will not exceed 12 students.
Where are they?
They are in the western foothills of the Massif Central in the department of the Haute-Vienne, close to the borders of the Charente and the Dordogne, between the towns of Rochechouart and Saint Junien. Their home lies in oak and chestnut woodland with views across the hills.
How to get there
Ryanair flies from Bristol, Newcastle, East Midlands, Stansted and Liverpool to Limoges. Flybe flies from Southampton, Exeter and Newcastle to Limoges. Euro Star and French TGV go to Limoges via an easy change in Paris. Take your car to Plymouth, Portsmouth, Poole, Folkestone or Dover and enjoy a leisurely drive down through France.
Materials
I will advise you on what to bring. They have tables, chairs, drawing boards, easels and cleaning materials. We stock some paper for sale.
Supplements
There are no single supplements for 2010. Prices for other activities are at cost, plus an allowance for transport. They offer a £300 reduction for non painting partners.
Deposit and Balance
£200 per person with the booking and the balance 8 weeks prior to arrival.
All for £695
